Chapter 14: Mysteriousness
A pool of crimson liquid started growing rapidly from the pile of boulders that had just fallen onto four unfortunate souls. A young ghost floated above it suddenly panicking as it saw the red substance leak out from the rocks. A wild boar hid behind a tree watching on as the unusual quietness of the night continued. The sky was clear, with the stars shining as brightly as it could onto the animals of the forest below.
”Oh no! What do I do! Are you alright, Kazumi-san!?” The pale figure that nobody could really see shouted.
The boar itself noticed the morbid liquid spurting from the rocks, “Okay, maybe this is a little too far in terms of revenge…”
Suddenly, one of the boulders was pushed out and out poked a young feline covered in this strange wet fluid that was oddly red.
”Ahh! The strange water Yuuna took from Yue has splashed all over us-aru!” She exclaimed. This cat seriously didn’t like getting wet.
Asuna had already revealed herself from the tree, not wanting the animals dead, but just wanted to do something to them for trespassing on her territory. She walked up to the small cat.
”Are you okay?”
”No I’m not-aru! I’m all wet-aruyo! I hate being wet-arune!!!”
Asuna sweatdropped, “There’s a river nearby, you can wash yourself off…but aren’t your friends just a little more important than getting wet?”
”No they’re not-aru! I’m wet! I’m all wet, waaah-aruka!!!!”
”Erm, okay, if you want them to stay trapped there fine. I’m going to find a new territory where stupid creatures won’t bother me on…” The boar said and started up the cliff.
Ku Fei stopped whining and stared at the pile of rocks before her. She started digging and throwing rocks around. Sayo, on the other hand, floated away from them to let the seemingly miniature wildcat do her work.
The first thing Ku Fei found was a brown little tail sticking out from the middle of four or five boulders. She struggled to push the boulders off, and when she did some rocks from the top fell into its place. If Ku Fei kept doing that until there were no more rocks, she would accidentally have crushed Yuuna, unless she already was crushed.
”Awwww, what do I do now-aru?”
As if on cue, a strong, and I mean STRONG, gust of wind blew at the boulders. Since such a blow was so strong, Ku Fei almost flew away too, but luckily held onto Yuuna’s tail.
”#*&$(#&$(*!@@$^&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” A string of curses came from within the rocks.
The boulders went flying into the air and smashed into a tree. However, the gust did not stop and the three animals that were freed from the rocks, along with Ku Fei, flew into the tree too.
Sayo floated as she watched, “Oops.”
The wind stopped.
”Ita-aru! What was that-arune!?” The cat asked as she got up.
Kazumi stood up, while Ako was unconscious in front of her. When the wind blew them away, she had shielded Ako from the tree that they had crashed into. Similarly, when the rocks tumbled down on them before, Yuuna shielded the young bird from getting hurt as well, but something had knocked Ako out anyway.
”THE HELL KU FEI! WHY DID YOU CLING ONTO MY TAIL!?” A young otter yelled as she got up, rubbing her fifth limb.
Ku Fei spat back, “IF I DIDN’T I WOULD’VE FLEW AWAY! IS THIS HOW YOU REPAY ME FOR TRYING TO FREE YOU-ARU!? PLUS THE COLOURED WATER YOU STOLE FROM YUE MADE ME WET-ARUYOOO!!!”
Sayo floated the two yellow birds beside the loudmouths by the tree. She was waving her translucent arm in front of the larger bird, but Kazumi didn’t notice it. The feathered creature was still rubbing her head.
”Oh no! Can’t Kazumi-san see me anymore!?”
”Eh? That you, Sayo-chan?” Kazumi muttered. Her eyes were still closed for some unexplainable reason.
”Why are your eyes closed?”
”What? They’re closed? OH MY GOD! I’M BLIND! I’M BLIIIIIIIIIIND!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T OPEN THEM!! AND THEY’RE ALL STICKY! IS THIS BLOOD!? HOLY CRAP I MIGHT ACTUALLY DIE HERE!!!!”
Yuuna added, “Oh, it’s not blood. Your eyes are closed shut by the sticky water I took from Yue…and spilled. Anyway, IT’S NOT LIKE YOU ACTUALLY ENDED UP DIGGING US OUT ANYWAY!!!”
”OH! JUST FOR THAT I WILL NEVER SAVE YOU EVER AGAIN-ARU!!!!”
”YOU NEVER DID!”
Kazumi walked around slowly and then bashed into another tree. She fell backwards from the impact.
”Um, Sayo-chan? Can you lead me to some water or something? I’m temporarily blind…”
Sayo nodded, not that Kazumi could see her anyway, “Um, go straight…”
”Guys, I’m going to find water to clean my eyes. Watch Ako alright?” Kazumi asked as she walked off clumsily.
”WHY ARE YOU SO ANNOYING-ARU!? I BE NICE AND YOU YELL AT ME!”
”YOU WOULD’VE SMACKED INTO THE TREE WITH ALL OF US EVEN IF YOU DIDN’T GRAB MY TAIL!”
They continued to yell, not noticing a large shadow from behind a fallen boulder, hungry for a certain unconscious bird…
Meanwhile, Kazumi was being led to the nearby river by Sayo…
”Er, go left, left, Kazumi-san!”
The young canary bashed into a tree.
”Not your left, my left, er, our lefts are the same!?”
”I’m sorry Sayo-chan, as a bird who’s lived in a cage most of her life…I don’t know which is left or right!”
The floating spirit sweatdropped, but they both soon heard the sound of the river not too far away, “Ah! We’re almost there, Kazumi-san! Just go straight!”
The yellow bird ran straight towards the river using her ears to guide her. Sayo was not too far behind. They continued until they almost reached the large stream of water.
”Kazumi-san! No! Stop! Stop!” Sayo suddenly cried out.
”Eh?” The running little critter ended up stopping, but certainly not in time. She had run past the edge and fell into the rushing water below.
”Ahhh! I CAN’T SWIM, SAYO-CHAN!” Kazumi yelled, “Oh look, I can see now…BUT I’M DROWNING!”
Sayo gasped and looked around. There was no potential animal in sight that could heroically dive into the water to save the tiny little animal from sinking to the bottom of the cold cruel river. Realizing this, and using all the bravery she could conjure up, which wasn’t a lot, she floated straight into the water. Unfortunately, since she couldn’t get wet, she also couldn’t do anything for Kazumi, not even grab her as her little translucent limbs went right through the panicking bird.
The little phantom friend of the doomed canary was panicking insanely. There was nothing she could do…until she spotted the rocks at the bottom of the river.
”Aha!” Sayo pointed as she was under the water, and used her mysterious ghost powers to lift up the rocks. She chosen one large stone and positioned it directly under Kazumi. The rock then shot up the water and smashed upon the flailing bird.
Kazumi was out of the water, flying in the air. Sayo then noticed something wrong. She had missed the fact that gravity was her worst enemy right now, as its angered glare brought down the still-flailing bird, straight towards some convenient spikes to break her landing. Quickly realizing that she was about to kill her and again repeat the same incidents where she scared the animals into spinning gears, Sayo smashed the rocks with the stone that was also flying into the air.
Not that landing on a blunt spike was harmless either.
”Ow…” Kazumi mumbled as she sat up. She was proud to see that she could see again, but when she opened her eyes after that incident, a large yellow spotted wildcat licked its lips above her…
’RUN!! RUN!!!”
The little legs of the bird tried to help the body escape as fast as it could, but the large cheetah was far too fast for such a small insignificant little…
Not surprisingly, Kazumi tripped.
The cheetah grinned, “So we meet again, canary! I was getting thirsty chancing that beautiful young male human earlier…so I had come to the river for a drink. Who would’ve known that I could find my favourite snack here?”
”Before you eat me,” Kazumi started, noticing that Sayo had floated quite close to her, perhaps trying to protect her, “what exactly is the taste of a canary that makes us so scrumptious to other animals?”
”Oh? Why…it’s absolutely delightful! Like heaven in your mouth! If you combined all your favourite meals together and times the deliciousness by a thousand, it still wouldn’t compare to the greatness that is a canary!”
”Ah, have you ever tried nikuman?”
”What would that be?”
Kazumi rubbed her chin, grinning, “It is a human-made food…legend says it even softens up the most vicious of all animals. It is said to be yummier than any animal could live up too. In fact a lot of cats dream of tasting canary-in-a-nikuman, sadly that has never happened…I have tried such a delicious treat, and I do understand the obsession of that cat with it…”
”And what is your point if telling me that? I could eat you right now!”
”You could, or you could also seek out a nikuman and try…canary-in-a-nikuman! It’d basically be the most delicious thing in the entire world—no—universe! Imagine that! It’d be like an orgas—“
“A-ahh, swearing is censored here, so we’ll get sued if you say that word, t-too” Sayo suddenly added out of nowhere.
”Sorry, um, as I was saying, I see that you, an ordinary cheetah, seem to be quite fond of a certain young human male…well canary-in-a-nikuman is almost as good as him!”
”Oh, call me Iincho! And yes, I do see the benefits of getting a nikuman…plus, you are the only canary in this area…there used to be so many way back when…BUT! I can also tell you’re trying to trick me, you rat,” the cheetah said, smiling, “Do you take me for an idiot!?”
The canary continued to smirk, an added confident tone in her voice turned up, “You seem like an intelligent creature, Iincho…the thing is…I do have a nikuman with me.”
”Are you trying to get yourself eaten?”
”You could eat me at anytime, I’m just saying that if you want to taste the most delicious thing in the whole wide world, you first need to figure out if you like nikuman or not,” the canary finished, handing the warm plump bun to the cheetah.
The large wildcat chewed on the white meat bun, feeling a great sensation in her mouth each time she took a bite, “Mmmmhm…this is…almost as good as a canary…”
She then looked down, and her main dish was gone.
”WHAT!? I WAS TRICKED! Grrr…I know better to fall for that. Hm, I can still smell her,” the large feline crawled off, stalking.
Further away, Kazumi was running for her life at one direction, very glad that she had snatched a nikuman with her when she went onto this journey. The small feathery bird gasped for breath as she found herself to be travelling further and further away from where the arguing otter and cat were. She stopped when she could no longer go on, as she had hit a dead end.
”Argh. I’m bound to be eaten now…is there anything you can do, Sayo-chan? Sorry if I’m asking too much, and I don’t even know why you’re out here…”
Sayo explained, “Ah, I noticed some of your animal friends kidnapped from the big red house (barn) and I guess I wanted to help you. I don’t see any rocks or twigs close-by, so I don’t think I could manage to help…I wish I could…”
”So you’re not stuck in that…scary building or near the farm?”
”After I met you I was able to go anywhere now! Thank you Kazumi-san!”
”So, the canary’s talking to herself…have you gone insane from the fear of being eaten by me?” The cheetah said as she closed in to Kazumi.
The prey jumped as the predator snapped its gigantic jaws at it. The bird barely escaped from death, but not without a mark as a crimson liquid that wasn’t mysterious water suddenly spilled out from her left wing. The wounded bird gripped it with her other wing. Kazumi was now against an enormous tree, trapped.
”It hurts to say this…but I guess I’ve run out of luck…”
”Ah! Kazumi-san! No!” Sayo yelled. She managed to flick the dirt into the larger animal’s eyes. It threw her back for a few seconds, but then the larger animal growled at the small annoyance.
”That’s it! I’m not going to hesitate this time!” The wildcat yelled as she wiped her eyes. She quickly leapt at the canary which had run out of options.
SMACK!
The cheetah fell backwards, “What the hell was that?”
An animal holding a familiar chick in its mouth glared at the cheetah, standing between it and the helpless canary behind the creature.
”What the hell do you think you’re doing, stupid cat?” The animal sneered.
”What? It’s you!”
Kazumi mumbled as she felt weak from the loss of blood, “Why d-does this animal…s-sound so familiar…?”
Everything blacked out.
-
Cliffhanger! (Yay!) Oh, and don’t bother guessing who the animal is. You’ll get it wrong. I’ll try to add more humour in like…the next chapter, or something.
A pool of crimson liquid started growing rapidly from the pile of boulders that had just fallen onto four unfortunate souls.
