Fire Alain Vigneault. Right now.

I don't know WHY people defend him. Yes it's the player's problem when they don't score or have defensive breakdowns or go into a slump, but today's game was fucking ridiculous. It is the COACH'S job to figure out a system for the players to play, and HIS IS NOT WORKING. In that horrific third period, they tried to protect a one-goal lead....very few scoring chances. NO.
YOU HAVE TO GET INSURANCE! YOU HAVE TO SHOOT AT THE NET, DO SOMETHING OFFENSIVE IN CASE THEY TIE IT. While Luongo is an excellent goaltender, contrary to the popular opinion...HE IS NOT GOD. If Luongo shut the door like this last game, that game would have been a cinch, but today Luongo was finally getting back to his regular form...TRY SCORING SOMETIMES TO HELP THIS GOALTENDER!

I don't believe that the players have the initial mentality in the third period to try to shutdown the number one team in the league, San Jose. I'm sure every offensive forward would like to score. The coach is the one who tells them what to do in these situations, and all this time I've always seen this stupid team fall back and try to defend, defend, and defend, spending fifteen minutes of the period in their own end and relying on Luongo! The scoring chances they DID get in that horrendous third period were because of luck, be it the rare giveaway by a San Jose player or some lucky bounce off the boards...the best chance being Mats Sundin's breakaway. Regardless it was still few in number, and we probably would have sprung up to a 2-0 if the team PUSHED HARDER OFFENSIVELY. But no, and who do I blame? The players partially, but also the coach. That bloody damned coach who thinks that the team is fine after a SIX-GAME-LOSING STREAK...SEVEN AT HOME! No! That is NOT fine! We're number 8 in the conference! Just weeks before we were happily sitting at 3rd place, before Calgary got hot and took over.

That stupid smirk on that coach's face. First, he calls out on the wrong players, sends the wrong players down, and juggles the line madly as if his life depended on it. Yes Pyatt did score a goal today and the game before, that's good. Putting players who had chemistry in the past and success in the past, in this case the Sedins and Pyatt is a very good idea of course....except the coach doesn't seem to understand how to create MORE of that chemistry! Demitra and Sundin would have been a great unit, but unfortunately Demitra went down, but why would you stick Raymond back with Sundin!? Even when he puts Wellwood back with Sundin, he keeps Raymond there! Of all players on the bloody roster right now, RAYMOND has done NOTHING! Why does he deserve top-six minutes with an aging superstar constantly!? I've never seen the Demitra-Sundin-Wellwood line used. That is a line that COULD CLICK because of Wellwood's past chemistry with the Swede and Demitra's developing chemistry! It's common sense!

Instead of demoting Hansen, demote Raymond! Yes Hansen did have that bad giveaway in the first, but Luongo was there to stop it. It seems that AV likes to demote you after ONE MISTAKE. One you might never do again for the next  sixteen games, but instead you are chastised for it, your confidence is shot down and thus you try too hard to make fancy plays to regain where your stance was before and therefore making the same mistakes because of it! AV needs to give players a bloody chance, but at the same time know when to stop giving them! Raymond was given lots of chances and has pounced on none of them, Hansen makes one and no longer has his job! A Hansen-Sundin-Wellwood line would have been nice!

Raymond did get scratched for that one game, true, but so far he has shown nothing of it. I still see him hogging the puck, flying into the offensive zone alone and barely passing. A Hansen-Sundin-Raymond line is stupid. Can an old big guy like Sundin keep up with the two speedsters!? Speaking of which if Sundin had buried his chances (he had like two, one with a gaping open net and he missed the one-timer, and the other was the breakaway) we would have won. If Luongo stood on his head just a little more we would have won, but these are individual factors. If EVERYBODY did EVERYTHING right we obviously could have won, with the exception of luck which we seem to be against constantly.

That's the second time I've seen Daniel Sedin take a stupid penalty in the offensive zone in overtime in the span of five games! Henrik may have had many of them in the early going, during the first or second periods but at least HIS were in the defensive zone and HIS weren't at such a crucial time like overtime! Granted it was a very iffy call, but still you cannot take those penalties no matter what. The only thing these Swedes are learning from the veteran Sundin is when to take penalties...AT THE WORST TIME POSSIBLE.

In the previous offseason, I actually wanted AV fired before Nonis...I was shocked that he didnt' get fired...and now I want him fired more than ever before. I hate his smirk during games when we do a bad play. I hate how he doesn't seem concerned that this team is losing and about to fall off the player radar. I hate his defensive style. I hate how he never calls of players who REALLY NEED TO BE BENCHED. Wellwood may not be very good defensively but who remembers a bad defensive play by him that lead to a goal? The problem with him at the moment is scoring. That is Wellwood's job, putting him on the fourth line will not constitute scoring whatsoever, and what was with that crummy second powerplay unit!? Pyatt, Raymond, and Wellwood!? OF ALL PEOPLE TO PUT TOGETHER. Pyatt is fine with the twins because of chemistry, but what does he have with these two!? Raymond can't do anything except skate everywhere really fast and then fall down, so how the hell can Wellwood do any good with what he has!? I'm surprised he's actually SCORED this year. Wellwood actually looked good with the twins but AV decided to reunite them with Pyatt because creating chemistry is such a sin.

I could go on and on, and the only line I wouldn't bash would be the third and fourth lines. Gillis created a very good bottom-six, but our scoring is supposed to come from the top-six forwards and while seeing the third and fourth line score is great, seeing them do that too often just to bail the team out is depressing. Scoring is not their job....it is a bonus, if they have to score to help win games then something is wrong with our top two lines! Yes the Sedins create a lot of points, but I don't often see it at crucial times. I've seen it as gamewinners, but maybe that's because we're in a 2-0 lead, the Sedins score the third goal, and then the other team easily rallies up the score for us to barely make it out of the game 3-2. How many game-tiers have they created? How much clutch goals have they REALLY produced!? This is why they haven't been successful in the playoffs so far...but are we even going to MAKE it into the playoffs at this rate!? Yes, maybe we'll win the next game AV and all positive things will return, but when we are out of the playoffs by one point or EVEN because we're tied and the team before us has more wins....then you are getting shafted, Mr. Coach.

I sorely hope it happens sooner rather than later, or our playoff hopes are dashed.

Now to end this hockey rant, my homerism for Steve Bernier.

Steve Bernier is awesome. He looks like Jovocop. He hits, he checks, he makes pretty plays. And maybe he'll finish more someday.
We got him from Buffalo, who got him from San Jose.
I'd love to see him hit those boards with much more grit and play.
I wish he stuck with the twins some more, but because of that coach he's not. Steve Bernier can become a power forward, just like Bertuzzi of his prime days...

Of course, my favourite thing about Bernier is actually his personality. All his interviews are extremely amusing and his French accent is out of this world. The only positive thing I can take out of today's bad bad game besides some players doing well, is Bernier at the bench when Daniel took a penalty. He was jumping up and down like a little kid raging...HAHAHA. I haven't liked a player to this extent for a while. Though because he may not be on this team next year (SADNESS) I want a Kesler jersey instead....but maybe if he sticks by this team I'll get a jersey of him as well someday...

"We got the two points and that's what really matters!" - Steve Bernier during an interview after a preseason game. This guy is awesome.
