How does this character do the impossible!? IT'S NONSENSE! Such an insane level of AWESOMENESS and PWNAGE achieved! Such perfection! So much perfection that the imperfection makes it PERFECT! ...and yet you cannot call her a mary-sue, or anything like that because she isn't either....yet still manages to do these feats!? WHO IS THIS CHARACTER!? ZOMFG.

Kazumi Asakura.

A few times through these past two years the favourite spot where she comfortably resides in has been in jeopardy, but unlike any other time I've ever liked any other character before...she has yet to be dethroned. (You can blame Yuuna for the jeopardies, LUL) That I do not know why...I do not understand how this character can achieve such a magnitude of greatness and yet compliment it nicely by not being insanely popular or completely loved by everyone else. A round, well-thought out character with every trait you would want in a person...and then some. It's just not right, breaking the laws of the universe itself! A mixture of unique traits, both sexy, hot, beautiful, and adorable in terms of looks, and a lovely personality of peppery goodness, one you cannot help but smile at. I never understood why people went for the stupid emo characters...because they're hot? That's incredibly shallow. If people knew these types of characters as real people they would be hated because of their shitty personality! So why do people love them in fiction? Why does someone like Edward from a crap novel like Twilight? JUST BECAUSE HE'S GOOD-LOOKING? Actually, he looks like a foot...so that's not an acceptable argument. Lul.

Kazumi is just the entire package! A touching story of reuniting a spirit with kindness and friendship she has never seen before...shows the "Awww" side of Kazumi. It's like a father talking about his two-year-old daughter...he looks manly, has chest hair and is very muscly, but he can even say sweet things like how much he loves his cute daughter. People always go "Aww" at that. Now I'm not comparing Kazumi to a manly, hairy, and muscly man, but Kazumi's initial personality that you encounter would make you think she's that selfish bitch who cares only for her ambitions...but she's really not, and she proves you wrong in the most "Awww" moment you can think of possible! Few things are sadder and sweeter than episode nineteen of the first season.

Even so, things in the manga also count towards this. Negi is far too busy to care about a ghost all the time...he has to find his dad, fix a love trioctagon, become a magister magi, save Asuna from herself, etc....so obviously Sayo needs a different source of the postive things in life she had never experienced for sixty years. Many people wouldn't expect it to come from Kazumi, which makes it so much better.

...and it's not like she's COMPLETELY sappy.

Seeing as Negima is an ecchi manga, obviously all the girls will walk around naked randomly for fanservicey purposes (XD)...actually it's just because Akamatsu draws bath, beach, etc. scenes for all the perverts out there to see. It's not like Kazumi is a complete saint who has declared celibacy...she wears the most questionable outfits I have ever seen...EVEN AS A LOLI. I mean seriously...it's like she's asking for a lolicon to come and take her away in the back of a car....never to be seen again. What kind of girl purposely leaves her short-shorts unzipped? WHAT KIND OF GIRL? She's prone to showing everybody her stomach, and really...you can't argue that she doesn't have a very nice sexy body, but a lot of females do in this manga...she's one of those who seems to flaunt it. Ironically, in that "best chapter of Negima evaaaar" when she was apparently groped...she was not very pleased about that. WELL GEEZ GIRL, YOU WALK AROUND WITH BARELY ANYTHING ON, WHY ARE YOU OBJECTING ANYWAY!?

It is also not because Akamatsu made it so...well, technically he did, but it's not like he made every girl look like whores yet in their mindset they are the most innocent girls you have ever seen. Those who look innocent ARE innocent...they're wearing conversative clothing unless they're forced to wear something explicit (LOLAKO) and those who don't usually have to wear two piece bikinis on a beach...wouldn't large breasts look strange in a one-piece swim suit? Besides, every girl wants to look attractive, however there's a difference between wanting to be attractive and looking like you want to get raped every single second of your life. (This is the difference between Kazumi and Yuuna XDDD). When you go to a beach...it's expected you wear a swimsuit and it's the standard to do so with very little coverage, but to do it everyday for absolutely no reason makes no sense. (Case in point, Rikku in FFX-2...she wore a bikni basically as her MAIN outfit, yet when she went swimming she put on a one-piece swimsuit....LULWTF!?)

So, while Kazumi wears very questionable outfits...at least she doesn't think she's an innocent saint in her mind. She pointed out the "forbidden act" a few times (with a questionable image XD). Basically people who are like 100% against sex appeal kind of annoy me. I mean the other end is also extremely annoying as well (extreme perverse) but it's human nature to like this stuff...too much is bad, but being against it is kind of stupid too. Kazumi is a balance for me....well, a balance tipped towards the more perverted side but she ain't extreme so all is good...xD

Basically, while Kazumi seems like someone who you will never see wear revealing outfits because her relationship with Sayo "is oh so innocent and sappy"...she'll do it anyway. She can be like this, and like that...and I love that about her....and there's MORE.

There are two kinds of characters. The serious characters and the not-so-serious ones. Many of Negima's main characters are all pretty serious, which is why a lot of them are not in my top ten...I'm not big on serious characters. They do have that comedy relief about them though (Setsuna's yuri jokes) but it's not because the character itself initated such humour or even WANTS that humour...to these characters they'd prefer a serious atmosphere, and the comedy routine is just their REACTION to the silliness, which is silly in itself. Kazumi, however, is a character who will initate humour whenever possible...she's not going to be against or react negatively to it. At the same time though, Kazumi can be serious....the balance there just makes her awesome. She was a part of the "Kill Sayo" team (yes, amusing) with ghostbusters equipment in chapter seventy-four...along with all the other silly characters (Yuuna, Sakurako, Makie, Haruna). At that time only Kazumi of the group knew of magic...why? She's capable of taking things seriously. (I don't think Haruna has taken anything seriously to this day xDDD even after knowing of magic)

I mean if someone who is not capable of taking things seriously knew of magic...they'd probably end up doing something stupid with that information and blowing up the earth. During the Kyoto Arc where Kazumi and a few unimportant characters (Nodoka and Haruna xDDD) turn into stone, Kazumi was the one who realized what was happening (well so did Nodoka, but she's too slow and how can her book somehow stop a petrification spell? I suppose she could call Negi, but it'd be too late) so Kazumi with her quick thinking pushed Yue out of the way, allowing Yue to escape and get help which she and the others were in a motionless state for a few hours. P:

When you first think of this character, people would often think that letting her know the existence of magic would be the DOOM for the entire story...sure she's considered it, but under all the consequences that would happen she never let that information fly. That level of maturity combined with her balanced personality of silliness and seriousness is what makes Kazumi so awesome. She's also intelligent, both book smarts and street smarts (it feels like she's cheating now xD). Basically, if you think about this in a story standpoint...KAZUMI IS INVINCIBLE. She knows how to stay out of trouble and survive without survival training...Training arcs are so boring, and Kazumi doesn't even NEED to train. That's just how great she is. XD I know without the other characters to do all the fighting she'd be dead, but she really doesn't require rescuing either, okay besides the stone thing and the Wilhelm thing but that was everybody else too. XP

Not just that.

I described that she is an attractive person, but yet again another balance to describe. She isn't JUST hot or sexy or beautiful...she's also cute. Not in the direct cute way like Sayo might be, but she can show her adorableness if she wants. She has a very cute face, and does :3 a lot (not as much as Ku Fei, aruyo :3) and was extremely cute as a chibi, but it isn't just her looks...it's her VOICE. >:3...whoever cast Jellophish as her seiyuu is a genius. (Jellophish is bloody adorable, btw.) That is the cutest voice I've ever heard in my entire life. I back this up with the latest Drama CD that came out, the one that was of chapter 118. Negi vs. Nagi. She was the announcer, and I think she sucks as an announcer (XDDD) but her cute voice makes it all that better. The best part was when she counted down by ten in BLOODY FREAKING ENGLISH! That Japanese accent just blew up her cuteness levels to an all-time high, xD. It was like; Wun! Twoo! Fwee! Foow! Fai! Sik! Sewen! Ay! Nigh! TEH! The scene between Nagi and Negi is very epic indeed, but that cute voice announcing the countdown in the background was so distracting XDDD. I love Kazumi.

I've probably posted about Kazumi millions of times now, but I can't get tired of it. I guess I always go for those happy/balanced characters all the time. The emos are all repetitive anyway...they're all emotionless antiheroes :X. To end this entry...that countdown and the awesomest panel of Kazumi EVAAARRR.

You know what's great about Negima? I could probably argue this entire rant with ANY MAJOR CHARACTER in it...with the exception with Negi. (Basically, 3-A!) However, Kazumi just tips the iceberg for me, so she would fit this the best.
