Steve Moore's Lawsuit
Feb. 15th, 2006 09:00 pmWow.
Today, in the Olympics, the great Canadian Hockey team beat out the Italians 7-2. Bertuzzi racked in 2 points (2 assists) Suddenly, 2 hours later, Steve Moore, the victim of an incident 2 years ago where Bertuzzi sucker-punched him in the back of the head, causing a lot of reckus while his teammates dogpiled on him and Bertuzzi to stop the violence, filed a lawsuit against Bertuzzi, asking for 15 million PLUS 1.5 million filed by his parents because of the grieving Bertuzzi had done so. It is quite certain that Bertuzzi did this after Moore injured Naslund on a clean check called by the people of the officials the last time these two teams met (The Canucks and the Avalanche).
Clearly, if I were not a fan of Colorado or the Canucks, I wouldn't care at all about this issue.
Now, let's point out some facts:
Both these players (or former player), don't seem to think when they act. Bertuzzi didn't think a punch would injure Moore, or even so end Moore's career. In fact, it is probably certain Bertuzzi might get some sort of suspension whatever the outcome of the punch would've been. But in his mind, this little guy on the 4th line of the Avalanche injured Naslund.
He must pay.
And, he did, but here, we all learn, especially Bertuzzi, that revenge is not a good thing. Especially in this circumstance. So, now everybody is mad at him, and he feels utter guilt within him. All the punishments and media come flowing in and his reputation is kicked in the butt.
Moore decides to get some revenge as well. "Legal" revenge, is what he's after. Well, truth is if anybody were in Bertuzzi's situation, they'd try to apologize so they can slack off this unbearable guilt sticking in their chest. If anybody were in Moore's little situation, they'd be mad as hell and think Bertuzzi is the devil's son. If these people weren't even hockey players, nobody except the place this happened would care. If they weren't popular or known at all, this whole thing wouldn't be so huge everywhere.
So, they both do what they think they have to do. Bertuzzi does all his things to regain his reputation because maybe he really is just a nice guy? Moore thinks he's heartless. Moore does have a point somewhere, that people would think Bertuzzi is heartless, but they don't know him for real. They aren't in his family; they aren't in his team. So at this point, any unbiased person wouldn't take sides just yet.
Ok, so life goes on. Hockey falls into a lockout after that season, but all this hasn't been forgotten, just diminished. When hockey finally comes back, it's all new with changed rules, but has any of this been forgotten?
Of course not.
Every arena other than GM Place that Bertuzzi steps into, you immediately hear a wave of boos. Now, I've heard that Bertuzzi has tried to apologize to moore many times, but Moore just doesn't seem to want to answer any of those apologizes.Could it be perhaps that Bertuzzi only cares about his reputation and is faking all of this? Is Moore really the one who knows what Bertuzzi is really like? Is his true self, a heartless man hurting a young 4th-liner his hobby? No. Only Bertuzzi knows who he really is like.
A lot of people in this world are nice people, why can't Bertuzzi be one? Yes, after a mistake, an action, anything, can hurt your true image. Not only the true image, but also in a mental sense, your mind. All this media, and craziness floating around him is affecting Bertuzzi slowly, bringing down his game perhaps. Why is everybody worrying about how he plays right now? Oh of course, he's in the OLYMPICS.
Canada must bring home the gold. Bertuzzi's one of those guys that was chosen to do so. A lot of people don't agree with his position being there. Heck, if you've been watching Bertuzzi playing lately on the Canucks as well, even a Canucks fan may think he shouldn't be there, but he is. Someone says he is, someone big, strong, powerful, oh yeah, the Great One.
Any hockey fan would recognize Gretzky's name. Lately he has been under a same "position" as Bertuzzi. No, he did not punch someone. People are just swarming around him about some "Gambling" Scandal that his former friend was apparently apart of in the National Hockey League. Yay, we find out just before the Olympics. Is U.S.A. just doing this so us Canadians will be weakened by our feelings and thus cannot play well? So they can win gold? Are they all in a master plan to win the medal so they can rub it into our faces, because OH MY GOD, AMERICA IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD YEAH!
No, probably not, as much as some of us might feel they are somewhat 'capable' of doing. Truth is, this is life. Yeah, someone does something bad by accident, feels all guilty and tries to redeem himself. The person knows he has done wrong. The person who had this done wrong to him is extremely biased of this bad person who has done this to him. Reality of course, does have those really hearltess evil people who want to kill all, one example was Hitler. But if Bertuzzi is some evil maniac that wants to kill everybody in the NHL minus Naslund and then take over the world, laughing at our agony, that is just farfetched. Maybe he is a "little" bad, everybody isn't completely good. We all have sins or regrets in our lives. Most of us those things are small, but stuff like this always varies.
Right now, I think we should forgive him. We don't have to completely forgive him, but just enough. Just enough so all this media will go away from the NHL, and leave every player alone. So that maybe some random player who really has no opinions about this incident, won't get bombarded by the media for his opinion. All they do is play hockey for fook's sakes. They play with the risk of being injured, and every hockey player should know that emotion is a very involved thing in the sport.
So if you think you're not going to get hurt, or not run into some annoying bastard like Marchment from the Flames, you are so wrong. There will be people who will get into your face, because they want you to be off your game, and win for themselves. Unfortunately in this situation, Steve Moore isn't an italian on the italian hcokey team trying to take Bertuzzi off his game. Right now, Steve just wants a chunk of money and justice, except he's asking for too much money.
If you really want to sue Bertuzzi, try 5 million, ok buddy? Most of us don't even have ONE million, so don't be greedy. And if Bertuzzi did this to you, don't go suing Orca Bay or the Canucks. What if Bertuzzi was on the Avalanche and hit you then? Would you sue them because they knew Bertuzzi was going to hit you and be a big bully? Bertuzzi used to be that random hockey player, just playing hockey. Too bad now, it isn't so. Too bad now, every single problem ends up in the court, and usually means a lot of money.
I'm a Canuck fan, but Joe Sakic is an awesome player. (In fact, I became a hockey fan this season, because before the lockout I was too busy being a THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL than watch hockey) Right now I'm not too knowledgable in hockey, but right now we seriously need a better system to find a solution to these scenarios.
Go Canada! Go Finland! Go Sweden! And I'll be nice and U.S.A. can come in fourth.
And now for something completely random: Either the Montreal Canadians, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers, or Nashville Predators can win the Stanley Cup if the Canucks don't want to, since they don't play like they do right now.
