I went and did this again because I figured these things would fluctuate.

OMFG KOISHI'S PICTURE ISN'T ON TOP AND WHY ISN'T IT NUE'S?

Well I realized throughout everything I've posted on here and everything I've written and everything I've fangirl'd about...my true favourite is quite obviously Murasa. @_@ Even then I could not click her face over Nue's so they ended up being tied, but due to the laws of alphabetical order she took the picture spot. Oh right, I was a bit more liberal with the tie button this time.

Besides the obvious durr hurr Nue went from T-5 to T-1, Satori hopped up, Byakuren went up, Keine catapulted from 34th to 12th (partly due to MokouKeine, partly due to Aoi-dono) and...RENKO ROCKETED FROM 63RD TO 18TH!? Yeah I kind of started to like Renko. I dunno why. It might be her hat. Her hat and Koishi's hat are very similar, and very awesome. Also swap Tenshi and Iku, I accidentally clicked Tenshi's face when I meant Iku's. (I like Iku slightly better than Tenshi. No ties here, lol)

People who did not do well. Though that chart does not show it, both Meiling and Patchouli are actually in the low 50's. Let me explain why they are so gosh darn low.

For Meiling I really did love her in IaMP when I first was intro'd to Touhou, but there are various reasons she is rather low. I don't dislike her at all, but because my interest in the characters are pretty much a logjam in the middle, there has to be different attributes of a character that put them high and put them low. In IaMP, Meiling wears white pants. Awesome looking white pants, but normally she simply wears her chinese-inspired dress with her legs very revealed. I'm not particularly fond of such revealing legs. Certainly I'm okay with it if it were say, a shorter character (case-in-point, Ku Fei from Negima) but I guess I don't like long legs? I am not a male who finds such revealed legs rather attractive. I am a female who does not find any attraction at all, and is actually quite put off, by such long slender legs.

Secondly, I don't like braids. This is why Sakuya is not in the tie with Alice and the vampires and such. I'd like Orin better, Sakuya better, and yes, Meiling better if they didn't have braids. Certainly Sakuya wouldn't look like Sakuya at all without those braids, but that doesn't mean I like them that much. Meiling's personality unfortunately is very often buttmonkey status, and not something that truly stands out for me enough for her to really be anywhere in my personal favourite list, thus her placement. Of course that doesn't mean I will be avoiding media with her in them, I will still read doujins or stare at pretty images at her, but due to these factors she is in the low fifties.

Oh and I hate high heels. Hate. Hate hate hate.

Now as for Patchouli, who I believe does not reveal her legs nor has braids nor wears high heels...there are different factors. Colouring, for example. I always thought I wouldn't like Satori and or Yuyuko due to their pink hair, but I liked them anyway. Then I realized Satori actually looks more like she has purple hair, so I thought I still wouldn't like her. But the shade of her hair is often portrayed more pinkish or at least lavender than a truly-bluish purple shade. Now that shade I do not like, which is what Patch actually has. There's something that doesn't really fit with her outfit. I know there's charm to wearing pajamas all day, but I guess the fact that her hair is already purple, it doesn't help that her clothes is simply one-colour as well, and not even a colour I like either. Even her shoes are the same as her sleeping cap, as the same as her shirt...all too mono-coloured for me.

Secondly her hairstyle I'm not too fond of. I never really like hairstyles with such straight cuts as opposed to the more common and appealing bangs of other characters. There are other reasons I like Youmu despite having such a boring hairstyle (yet it fit her personality, but her hair changed in Ten Desires! Hooray!) and this is another hit on why Orin is low. Patchouli is also portrayed far too often inside Marisa's harem without a personality of her own, moreso than even Alice in my opinion, so it's all rather unfortunate.

Of course these explanations are silly because I have no idea how to describe why I like Murasa besides "Murasa is awesome." I mean, her clothing is too simple, it's a fucking skirt (AGH.) which is far too plain and dumb and retarded. (I only like very few pictures with a skirt) and even if she does wear a skirt OR shorts, what kind of skirt/shorts are they? (If she has to wear a skirt I wish it were green like a school uniform to fit more) Is it too short? Are they rippled? Are they short-shorts? Are they those big puffy shorts that I don't like either!? Aghghrghrgh. I know ZUN apparently spent the most time of any character figuring out Murasa's design and yet I am so disappointed in it. Why not awesome gloves? Sailors wear gloves...specific type of boots? Or armbands or eye patches or or navy longcoats or or SO MUCH POTENTIAL AND YET...!?!? Is he really only good at frilly girly clothes?

And don't get me started on how not-original her hair or her personality or her anything is. I don't even like her name. Wtf. Spotto.

Actually if you think about it design is a huge part of why characters are popular. I really like Nazrin's outfit, simple yet works. I love Byakuren's too, and Kogasa's isn't so bad. (Maybe it's because she has heterochromia, actually) but they're the most popular of UFO! While we have boring-looking Murasa, and while things on the head are the law in Touhou, covering MOST of the head ala Ichirin does not work either, while Shou looks far too busy and messy. (I think if it were simplified slightly she'd look a bit better. Her clothing seems way too layered) Nue's okay.

Why is it whenever I start a rant on anything it turns into something about UFO. No wonder five out of the seven UFO characters are in my top ten now. @_@ INVASION.

Well it is why I even like Touhou now. I was intro'd to Touhou before UFO or even SA came out...I think. I am in this fandom because I love UFO and SA so much, so...

Speaking of the design rant, comparing Murasa to Koishi brings me to this. Koishi has an amazing outfit, with amazing colouring and an amazing name with an amazing hat and amazing hair, oh and an amazing personality. Did I mention she's amazing? First, her colours are the inverted version of Satori, so already that's awesome--yet at the same time they both still look good in their colours, too! It isn't some outfit with a brilliant colour palette with the inverted one the ugliest barf-green ever, no! It is also unusual colours, but not bad. The yellowish-orange shirt, with the blue diamond buttons to complement the eye, and the black trim, with lush green on the shoulders and the skirt, not just plain green but with a subtle pattern... The black hat fits nicely with the trim, while her hair is silver, tinted with light green, possibly blue (I prefer the light blue but it may just be fanon) and rich, green eyes. The sleeves are huge (I like big sleeves :3) coupled with her closed third eye and unkempt, shoulder-length hair, with her unique, compact name and a personality, a likeness that can be interpreted in so many different, amusing ways...

...wait, why isn't Koishi first again?

I think I just have a thing for ghosts in sailor uniforms. Then again I always thought the reason I liked Sayo was due to Kazumi. Actually, what kept Sayo from being my favourite (besides her boring straight-cut hair and her straightforward, one-dimensional personality, that is) is that while she was a ghost, she was...nothing like a ghost. She was simply cute, just HAPPENED to be a ghost, and I dunno...wasn't enough for me. She introduced me into the ghost-character concept, which led me to Yuyuko and Touhou. The ghost-thing was a big reason Yuyuko was an early favourite (hurray for default heart-breaking backstory!) but despite being a ghost it seems more emphasis is put on her power to kill anyone she wants, and again, the ghost thing is to the side, secondary. Plus she's surrounded with other ghosts/ghost-like creatures, so she wasn't very unique and wasn't as mysterious since her backstory tied into the plot and Yukari knew her before she died.

Then we get Murasa. First, she does NOT get the stereotypical "MY HAIR TURNS LIGHTER WHEN I AM A SPIRIT". Her hair is black, which reinforces the idea she's one of those much scarier, much more successful Japanese ghosts. You know, the ones that are actually in horror movies, those ones. THEN you realize she IS one because she went and caused dozens if not hundreds of people to drown, and then to top that off, SHE'S THE CAPTAIN OF A SHIP..

And to further drive the point into your head, SHE TURNS GREEN and evil spirit-like when she's serious and about to kill you...and that is just amazingly awesome. I guess that was what I was looking for. Then to EVEN further drive the point, she not only wields an anchor as a weapon, she uses it as A BULLET, and not just ONE anchor but like seven being thrown into your face at the same time! So I guess that explanation is indeed valid. Murasa is #1 because she is awesome and badass, not because I just say so but because SHE IS.

And there we go.
