I like looking back and seeing how different it is now. Today's topic of that sorts, are Negima seiyuus!

This was my opinion of the top seiyuus like three years ago:

1. Sayo (Shiratori Yuri)
2. Yue (Kuwatani Natsuko)
3. Ayaka (Minagawa Junko)
4. Zazie (Inokuchi Yuka)
5. Ku Fei (Tanaka Hazuki)
6. Evangeline (Matsuoka Yuki)
7. Kaede (Shiraishi Ryoko)
8. Setsuna (Kobayashi Yuu)
9. Makie (Horie Yui)
10. Kazumi (Sasagawa Ayana)

This is my opinion today:

1. Ayaka (Junko Minagawa)
2. Kazumi (Ayana Sasagawa)
3. Yuuna (Madoka Kimura)
4. Makie (Yui Horie)
5. Yue (Natsuko Kuwatani)
6. Setsuna (Yuu Kobayashi)
7. Kaede (Ryoko Shiraishi)
8. Evangeline (Yuki Matsuoka)
9. Haruna (Sawa Ishige)
10. Chachamaru (Akeno Watanabe)

WHAT HAS CHANGED
SAYO (Yuri Shiratori) who was first, fell off the list.
Her voice fits, and it's very nice, but that's about all Yuri Shiratori has for her. I don't know particularly why she was first before...I don't remember why I liked her so much before. I suppose the no-shows for the Princess Festival and her general lack of eagerness (veteran seiyuus are too busy to voice minor characters it seems, one of the reasons I do love rookie seiyuus like Kazumi's) as the voice of Sayo caused her to fall off, but she'd still be in the running, around 12th or 13th still!

YUE (Natsuko Kuwatani) from second to fifth is not because her abilties dropped, it's only because she stayed where she is while others went beyond her in terms of my opinion. :) Still an excellent seiyuu in my eyes!

AYAKA (Junko Minagawa) from third to first is very impressive. I always thought that her abilities in singing and voice acting were superb, and she hasn't ceased to amaze me yet, thus her catapult to first. It takes real skill to be better than my favourite characters, voicing a character I don't particularly care for (but Ayaka's still cool, yo).

ZAZIE (Yuka Inokuchi) from fourth to nothing. I have no clue how she was in the list in the first place, considering she basically had one line in the first anime, and only had monotone-puns in the second, while not being particularly enthusiastic about her position. It seems hard to be when you voice so little since the character barely speaks.

KU FEI (Hazuki Tanaka) from fifth to nothing. The voice is very nice, and I was very impressed by her in DaiMahoraSai, but she seems to have lost her enthusiasm when the Princess Festival arrived. She lacked a lot of emotion that I saw in her younger days, and didn't look to put in as much effort. It's a shame since Ku Fei is one of my favourite characters. The situation is similar to Sayo's seiyuu, but less extreme.

EVANGELINE (Yuki Matsuoka) from sixth to eighth, is in a similar position like Yue's seiyuu. She's still very good at voice-acting and decent in singing, but a few others managed to surpass her is all. She just stayed where she was!

KAEDE (Ryoko Shiraishi) from seventh to...seventh, she didn't go anywhere. Ryoko has a lot of enthusiasm for Kaede, and great singing abilities. I also love her voice acting, unfortunately her character doesn't have as many opportunities to sound dramatic (unlike Ayaka) because Kaede is a ninja and staying calm is key. Either way I think she has potential to be much higher on this list, alas I am far too biased.

SETSUNA (Yuu Kobayashi) from eighth to sixth, Setsuna's VA is a key example of the "rookie" seiyuu I love so much. Although when she landed this role she wasn't necessarily a fresh, brand new seiyuu or anything, but this role, like Negi's seiyuu's situation, was like a breakout role for her. She gained considerable popularity as Setsuna, considering Setsuna's usual crown of the popularity polls. (Debunked by Yue recently though) Seeing her so passionate as Setsuna just makes me smile. She also draws some horrifyingly hilarious pictures.

MAKIE (Yui Horie) from ninth to fourth, I think I was very very biased during the first list, putting YUI HORIE of all people so low on the list. I wasn't fond of Makie for some reason back then, but I don't really mind Makie anymore. She's one of the cutest and enjoyable characters in Negima, and her voice is not an exception. Also her singing is spectacular, but everyone already knows that. I'm glad despite being such a huge VA she still shows lots of enthusiasm as Makie, who isn't nearly as major as Naru from Love Hina was.

KAZUMI (Ayana Sasagawa) from tenth to sescond, this is pretty much a no-brainer. I'm still wondering what past me was thinking, only putting Ayana at tenth. Despite having a minor role (though she did have quite a few lines in the first anime, her role was pitifully diminished in Negima!?) she shows some of the biggest enthusiasm I've seen, only the major characters' voice actresses exceed her. Her unique voice and happy singing always always makes my day shine brighter.

CHACHAMARU (Akeno Watanabe) from nothing to tenth breaks into the list just barely. I was wondering whether to choose her or Konoka (Ai Nonaka) to be tenth, but eventually decided on Akeno. As much as I love Konoka's pippy voice, something about Chachamaru's voice draws me to her, even if she's pretty much monotone most of the time. Also her singing is absolutely stunning if she focuses on it (and she makes up for Yuri (Sayo) in Maze of the Dark). She also has an adorable dorky laugh.

HARUNA (Sawa Ishige) from nothing to ninth is also a newcomer to the list. Sawa has plenty of enthusiasm as Haruna, the only TRULY evil character of class 3-A (haha), but I think that Digimon marathon really helped her, as well as the fact that she showed up for the Christmas concert too. I really wish she had more than just the Chupacabra song in Negima!? She really got screwed in those character songs.

YUUNA (Madoka Kimura) from nothing to third is a substantial, substanial leap. My ridiculous and silly younger self never appreciated Yuuna's voice in the past, constantly believing that Yuuna only ever sounded "loud". I was knocked into my senses by Aoi-dono (and also that several Negima fans actually do rate her voice high) and then I realized what a unique voice she did have. A low, husky kind of voice that still had the girl-hyperness in it to perfectly fit Yuuna's character. Not to mention her enthusiasm for the role (crying in DaiMahoraSai!?) despite Yuuna being a rather minor character. (Let's hope that changes!)

Of course Yuuna's huge leap also as to do with me liking her more and more...and more and more. I still haven't forgiven her for stealing Kazumi's spot in the popularity polls because she'll never take her place in my own personal poll! (I bet I just jinxed this.)

Nah, Asakura's been on top for three years, it's unlikely she'll ever be overthrown. ;)

Then again, Max did take over Rei....who knows? Kazumi's still my role model though!
