Come on!

So during the Canucks preseason Brendan Morrison came to tryout. I was excited. I was young when I followed the WCE days, and he is one of those very nostalgic players I remember. I kept wondering if he'd be kind of like a Linden (probably not to the extent of Linden obviously, but there could be some comparisons) and it did help that his home is this province. After Bernier and basically the entire third line was let go/traded away, I was actually quite sad about this upcoming season despite how hyped up the team was. Don't get me wrong. I love how our defense looks, and I love the new third line as well, but I wanted a player that wasn't necessarily very good, but still contributed to the team in some way, maybe an unsung way, and was that lovable guy I could cheer for to get up in the depth chart.

Well, despite how confident I was that Morrison would sign here, he signed with the Flames. I mean I didn't mind if he went to another team...but our greatest rival!? Our most hated team, my childhood hero, beloved nostalgic player still left in the league in the most HATED team!? That was not what I expected at all. I didn't realize the injuries piling up with the Flames would lead to this, not that I was being smug that they had injuries, but I never knew something I just didn't care about could lead to one of my favourite players going to my most hated team. I really want to wish him luck, really, but if he is to be happy with that team they would have to be successful, and this year despite the preseason showing the very questionable signings and the odd injuries doesn't seem that way with the Flames. Even if they are successful there will be this huge rivalry full of hate and insults thrown about and it just won't make me happy to see him as the enemy eight times a year. Why couldn't he have signed with an eastern team, or at least a team not within the division? Why couldn't he have signed with us? The amount of pros seemed a lot more than cons, and he did want to go to a winning team right? I was just so surprised, despite the rumours that he really did sign with the Flames.

I mean, the money he got signing with them we could've afforded anyway. I would've preferred him over any center we had below Malhotra in the depth chart. (Bolduc, Desbiens, Rypien, whatever) or he could've been a wing. Why is Hodgson still in this team, he wasn't great at all in camp when Morrison was, yet Morrison is on my most hated team. Do I blame the management not willing to sign him, or did Morrison want more of a role? I always thought he'd show a little more loyalty, but man he could shuffle around in any line here. It just seems like it's going to be a huge regret in the future, that Morrison will score tons of goals on us, and we'll start to hate him. I don't like hating people I loved before, it doesn't feel right.

Everyone feels this is the year, but man, if this team is full of players I can't play favourites with, not because of skill but how lovable they can be (I'm weird, I'm not one of the guy fans who just wants the BESTEST PLAYER EVAR no matter his attitude or whatever) but now this season is just feeling sad. And I really hate all the hype, I always believe the more hype there is the more disappointments that can happen, and it puts so much pressure onto them.

I really felt Morrison signing here would've made up for EVERYTHING. I was so giddy about it too, but this is the worst possible outcome. Maybe he'll come here on the trade deadline, or even next year if at all? Will there be a player this year to fill in the Bernier void? Why do all the players I like get traded to Florida!? Not that I liked Hordichuk or whatever, but we seem to like trading all our not-as-good-possibly-expensive players to Florida. It's like Florida wants to give us all their happy things and take the burden of our trash. Yeesh.

I suppose if we get the cup this year, it'll be better, but I'm not going to feel as into the season if I don't find a new favourite player. Yes I am weird, my favourites aren't the best. I do like Kesler, thus why I have his jersey, but I wish there was a day I could see some underrated unsung player rise to the top. Okay, Burrows did that, but he never seemed unsung, everyone knew he was an extremely hard worker and he earned his way to the top. I like Burrows too, but I need another, someone everyone trashes that I can remember being trashed because while I know people were dissing Kesler and Burrows and even the Sedins in the past, I don't actually quite remember it, so I don't get that satisfied feeling of seeing potential in someone, and watching them succeed through my eyes.

I wish Schroeder made the team. He was better than freakin' Hodgson. Of course, letting O'Brien go wasn't that great either. I know he has a bit of an immature attitude, but I do agree with his opinions. I never liked the coach. I don't know if more people are going to have a problem with him, but it has become a trend lately. I think AV purposely put O'Brien with the AHL rosters on the road so MG would get rid of him. Of course there are better ways to voice these opinions, and especially now that he's been traded he probably shouldn't even say anything about that, but I still think his opinions are valid. If we got rid of O'Brien due to cap issues, that I understand. I would be annoyed if it were any other reason.

But I think I do have one opinion every  single Canuck fan will hate me for, except maybe one of my friends. I want Schneider to outplay Luongo and take over. I never liked Luongo. He's a good goalie, but I dislike his attitude, that he has to play EVERY game and tire himself out and injure his groin or whatever. I know you're good man, BUT YOU ARE NOT GOD. You used to be able to carry the team (well almost did) when you first got here, but he hasn't been as good as that 06 season. We have an amazing roster this year, please don't try to do everything yourself. At least he isn't the captain anymore. If he however keeps this attitude away from that I will tolerate him, but I always hated how our backups played like 10 games a year and the only reason they play more is because Luongo injures himself, making it worse for us all since we don't know when he'd come back and our play is much more mediocre. If he takes more breaks and we know when he would play, I think he'd be much more efficient for this team.

I prefer calm collected goaltenders who don't scream at referees when they get bumped. But if he can be a bit better in that department and better goaltending obviously (I think this new goalie coach is doing quite well) then fine, whatever, be our goaltender for the next ten years.

Anyway, that's all for hockey. My room feels so quiet without two hamsters. It doesn't help that my microphone is broken. Man, this week has been pretty bad so far. I hope it gets better.
