alright now that the hype is down

 MY INITIAL THOUGHTS...which are despair. Complete and total despair.

Well okay, not really. I played through the game myself...died on Stage Four...I really can't comment on the music yet until I hear it standalone like on Youtube or something. Having it peppered with bombs and bullet noises with Ventrilo people in the background (lol) doesn't really do it justice, and if the whole combining spirit world with normal version thing is true, then that too.

When the demo came out, I told myself "Imma give this game a chance. Imma welcome it in bright light and smile at the characters and attempt to dodge the danmaku as best I can. Imma listen to all the music many times in its highest quality before judging. Imma read all the manuals and the back-stories of these characters and applaud it for its ingenuity and originality. Imma love this game because you know what? UFO taught me to love. Byakuren taught me to love. I must love all. Both youkai and human, and so I shall." I will also tolerate myself for abusing the not-word, "Imma". 

But then...shock.

Excerpt from Toyosatomimi no Miko's profile:

"Miko judged she had no need to rush and could resurrect herself at any time, and so continued sleeping. Finally, the time of her resurrection came.

Reimu: Uh?
Seiga: The one who built this temple here to prevent the resurrection...
Seiga: ...That's who the real dark lord is. Building a temple to support youkai!
Seiga: The girl here is a sage with the weight of the future on her shoulders. And she'll make sure annihilate the youkai."

DDD: ...and EVEN then:

"Miko: You may work as a youkai exterminator, but I see you as a supporter of youkai.
Miko: Are you not allies with the youkai monk and her ilk who opposed my resurrection?
Reimu: You mean Byakuren? My eternal rival (in terms of religion)?"

As a Myourenji fan I am...having a difficult time LOVING these characters. These characters who oppose my favourite characters. Sure they'll probably be tons of Foe Yay in three days but...but there's MORE! Touhou fans are already comparing the two games and UFO isn't the most popular game of the series by far so...but then there's the Extra Stage.

If you've read this blog, you know how dissatisfied I am with Negima. Why does this even matter in this small little rant of despair? Well the Extra Boss is a Tanuki who to me looks strikingly familiar to FEMALE Negi. (Round glasses and all!) But wait! There's more! According to her profile and Nue's, who ended up being the midboss of the extra stage...they're OLD FRIENDS. Nue had asked...what's her name for a favour because she found out about the Taoist's plans. Well here comes my shallow, shallow, shallow, SHALLOW reasoning for having difficulty LOVING this game...

What is my OTP of Touhou? That's right. I mean it probably doesn't matter but I really don't like the design of this character because she looks like the bane of my old fandom, and then all those fanarts I stare at of my OTP will grow fewer and fewer.... Also part of her name is also similar to a Madoka character which is an Anime I don't necessarily care for at all, but I was rather annoyed by its rampant uhm, everywhere-ness when it was airing. (Which is rather hypocritical because Touhou, but Touhou has been around forever so...I mean... I DON'T KNOW) I don't care that Kyouko is even named Kyouko! I love Kyouko. She's cute, but this new extra-boss is really...making it quite difficult for me to love her even if it's for shallow reasons.

But I will end it on a high note. Futo is awesome. Futo is best of the revealed characters IMO. Also I heard Miko experimented on her before she put herself into a long sleep...I smell EIRIN REISEN SHENANIGANS. Also the sixth stage reminded me of Yukari with her shikigami Ran and Chen... (and not only that, the tanuki hates foxes....)

No opinion on that mid-boss so far. She needs some fanart. Her profile is horribly short compared to her brethren. I WILL TRY TO LOVE YOU TEN DESIRES. In fact, I WILL TOLERATE AND LOVE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU but I don't know if I can. There is just so much bias I have against the story/character(s) so far.

But it's just been one day! I bet in a few months I'd be crazy over some Ten Desires' character and call anybody who hates them retarded bastards or something....but for now I do not predict that future. 

ALSO WHY ARE THERE NO LONG-HAIRED TOUHOUS WHAT IS THIS WHY IS EVERYONE EXCEPT FUTO WEARING KOGASA WIGS IN DULL PASTEL-LIKE COLOURS!? That is why Futo is awesome and better than the rest. I mean LOOK AT THAT HAT.
