spotto I just discovered one of my favourite pony artists draws Rule 34.
Now that is not a bad thing. I'm not going to judge those who draw whatever it is they wish to draw. If I do not like it I won't view it. It's just this person drew a huge amount of incredible cute things and I've followed them for months and just now discovered this fact. It's like when you discover porn of your childhood cartoons you adore so much, part of your mind cracks and splinters into a rubble of despair that the purity you once associated with something is suddenly lost and can never be obtained again.
And of course I'll be overjoyed when they draw their next SFW thing, but then I view that SFW thing second thoughts will cloud my head. "What if, in off-screen this person drew these adorable ponies practising their carnal desires!?" and then the initial cover of cuteness is shattered into a million pieces and you frown like that Pinkie Pie in my icon. I'm not blaming anyone for this. The artist deliberately kept the NSFW pretty much locked away, hard to find unless you purposely seek Rule 34. Well, I was just browsing Ponibooru for a few pictures and one of their SFW images from said reservoir of Rule 34 popped up. Naturally I was curious as the art style was insanely familiar and then the balloon expelled all of its air, flying away from the joyful helium it once was.
I'm not trying to keep pony itself all saintlike and pure. I do read grimdarks about them after all and I'm fine with violence, but still, the way your mind is moulded around certain characters or certain shippings or certain settings that you kind of keep those away from the more chaotic part of your mind, but it is forced in there anyway. Everything, if popular enough, will be crossed over...and if popular enough, will be served with a side-dish of grimdark, or if it even just exists, a dessert made up of Rule 34. It is inevitable really, and you just try your best to stray out of its way, but with how the internet works that is seemingly not possible.
Today I mourn for PinkieShy. Tomorrow I'll go back to staring at some cute PinkieShy artwork. I'll probably get over it. If the Canucks lose tomorrow, I'll probably get over it.
