spottoWELL SCRATCH THAT EPISODE SEVEN (seven? was it seven?) JUST REVIVED MY LOVE FOR MLP
That Rarity scene made me laugh out loud; it is up there with Luna Eclipsed's Fluttershy door scene and The Last Roundup's "Rarity catch me!" scene for sheer humour. The rest of the episode was sound too. No complaints about how characters were written, though I did find Fluttershy's voice a bit off from the usual... this happens sometimes and on rewatches I don't notice anymore so I'm not sure if it's my ears or how the episode was streamed or if the voice actor was sick or having an off day or something, so...
But yeah! That was definitely a Celestia-tier episode. I might have to go back to maintaining that post after all.
EDIT: NO FUCKING WONDER, it's the writer who did Pinkie Apple Pie! This lady is slam dunk with the humour!
EDIT 2: I'm eternally amused that the one pony who went to the Gala without a relative as a guest was Fluttershy.
Not "I am friends with EVERYPONY" Pinkie Pie or "I know all the nobles from Canterlot" Rarity or "I'm awesome and popular and therefore everyone loves me" Rainbow Dash, but "SUPPOSEDLY SOCIALLY CRIPPLED" FLUTTERSHY. Of course the obvious reason is we've seen no family member of Fluttershy's she could take and the next best friends she has that we know of aside from the rest of the Mane Six are her animals, so I mean... (also the episode would not have worked if Fluttershy didn't bring some friend that wasn't Discord or a family member, but you get the point)
Also it's real heartwarming the rest of them brought their siblings, but still. YOU'D THINK. Of course if we actually try to explain this away aside from the normal natural logic I just used, you could certainly say Fluttershy's family probably lives far away since she lives on the ground (and aside from a flashback Rainbow Dash's is nowhere to be around too, so I bet the pegasi' families live in Cloudsdale or some other high in the sky place) or we could even speculate that Fluttershy doesn't even HAVE family. Though I suppose Shining Armor popped out of nowhere with no mention after two seasons and Maud showed up after four despite Pinkie already having two known unnamed sisters, so I guess surprise relatives can still pop up for Fluttershy.
The other explanation is....FLUTTERSHY BROUGHT AN ACTUAL DATE.
She was real close to that Treehugger in this episode. We've never seen her before. Fluttershy, of all ponies, made a new friend and invited her to the Gala with her???? There was hugging and laughing and the LOOKS she had on that very stereotypical clearly-high-as-fuck hippie was very suspicious indeed...
No it's not my shipping goggles shut up. Everyone here knows I'm a PinkieShy shipper. But as that ship is never going to come to fruition (I don't even want it to! I just want Pinkie to interact with Fluttershy more than they do! They barely do! BE FRIENDS DAMN YOU! BE FRIENDS ON SCREEN!) I can at least wonder if they'll ever delve into showing a pair that's same-sex and not different every single time. It's no big deal, doesn't have to be a very special episode or anything like that. Plus this show is about FRIENDSHIP so I sincerely hope romance never becomes a plotline in this show, but it's be nice for something like this to be shown. A few other cartoons have already done this before so it's not like some newfound territory that'll blow the industry off their feet.
Plus it wouldn't be Rainbow Dash, which would be stereotypical and inherently obvious. A GIRL CAN DREAM CAN'T SHE!?
