SERIOUSLY.
Mar. 29th, 2009 03:33 amAko. Best character ever.
Why? It's complicated actually. One word, or attribute will not describe it. I have said time and time again that Kazumi is a pretty awesome character. Well, she is, but the problem is she's a side character who is off-screen doing who-knows-fucking-what at the moment. (COME BACK KAZUMI....T____T *kazumi withdrawal*) I love her because of everything she is.
But Ako is the best because of everything she became.
Character development is a key thing, and I don't think there was this much strong, and powerful character development in any character I have gone through until now. Every fandom and character I have loved and stayed loyal to for so long was because of all these funky, happy, etc. things about them. Kazumi? Her complete awesomeness without being a mary-sue. (It is incredibly hard to roleplay as Kazumi. Her characterization is difficult without making it shallow like Negima!? >_>; Same with fanfiction...can't write her unless I change her personality completely. (SEE WITH IN OUT CAST AND HAPPY FARM FRIENDS.) Then again I fail at roleplaying anyway....HOW I MAKE HONG KONG NOT LIKE JAPAN~!?!?!?) In fact, speaking of WIOC...I probably will never finish it because I will never be able to write something as completely AWESOME as how Ako became in canon. It's just...the patience, the writing, the story....wow.
You know Nodoka fans really irk me. A lot. Perhaps I'm just incredibly biased, but she overcame her primary flaw far too early. So now you can't really do anything with her character from that point on. All she is is like a catalyst character, someone there to make others develop, such as Yue in 128, which makes Nodoka very boring to me. I never liked her, and I think the reason I fell from my early love of Yue IS because of her. Every character I like there's always this second one to reinforce my love for them, Nodoka failed.
But Ako was that WEAKEST MOST PATHETICST character for such a long time, inducing a lot of negative criticism because her character wasn't very likable. BUT THAT JUST MAKES HER CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT THAT MUCH STRONGER. I don't believe someone can change that fast. It needs to be a gradual change. For Nodoka that took 32 chapters. For Ako? 245 chapters. Perhaps it's because Ken Akamatsu improved in storytelling as time went by, but it really did reflect greatly on Ako.
Ako will not hit my list of beloved characters like Kazumi, Sayo, Rei, Max, Li, Wen, or even recent ones like Yao, Imu, or HK (FOR SOME REASON RPING AS HK BOOSTED MY LOVE OF HIM x9000) because well, I kind of need to love them for two years to do that (though, technically I kind of did because I LOVE TOO MANY CHARACTERS FROM NEGIMA) and also because I have had a love-hate relationship with Ako for so long (which has now translated to just love P: ) but seriously, that was epic. Epic epic EPIC.
What I am saying is, I don't see myself fangirling over Ako or screaming or anything over her like I am currently with Hetalia because she is a much deeper character right now than some ink on paper only there to entice entertainment. Case in point, while I do love Hong Kong x9000 more he has actually never been in a Hetalia comic thus far. Only sketches of him and the trading card are out. The "personality" assumed on Hong Kong is from his appearance, and it just fleshed out because the fandom is so big and awesome like that. However without something linear it doesn't feel as fresh (which is why the canon is so important). The many many many N.Koreas are an example of that. I love this one depiction of N.Korea as Yun Soo's twin, who looks very hot and has braided hair (and is a male. Someone made an awesome fancomic of him, even RPs as him.) And the fact that not everybody follows that (one because it's a fan thing) makes N.Korea very broken for me.
So, N.Korea is some hot-looking dude? The psychotic split-personality side of the normally happy Yun Soo? His FEMALE twin? A PARASITE WORM INSIDE YUN SOO'S STOMACH WAITING TO EXPLODE AND EAT HIM UP FROM THE INSIDE, THUS TAKING OVER THE ENTIRE PENINSULA AND RULING THE WHOLE WORLD~!?!?!?!?
Well, who knows. I do like the pyschotic split personality theory, just because it makes S.Korea even more badass than he already is.
...oh wait, was this entry about Ako?

See, like I said. While I won't be able to fangirl and stuff like I did with Yun Soo about her, I still think she is the best character ever. Character-wise. Not fandom-wise or anything else, but her character is incredibly strong. You see I can't RP with Kirami with Ako to eat kimchi and burn down houses or molest aniki or anything, BUT YOU GET MY POINT RIGHT?
Also, I forgot to do all the Bernier stuff since I missed last week's Blues' game, then they lost horribly at Phoenix, beat Dallas, and lost horribly to the Blues, again, and then beating Colorado. OH WELL.
Until next time~
